ruff.

Whats black and white and red all over, tastes like Christmas and will not last 37 hours in your fridge if you share your fridge with me?

Peppermint Bark
brilliant / brilliantly simple / put a bunch in a little bag with a ribbon and give it as a gift and people will love you

1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips (get good stuff, you can taste the difference)
1 bag white chocolate chips (ditto)
2 teaspoons peppermint extract
1 cup crushed peppermint candy

Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave, stirring after every 30 seconds to avoid scorching.  Pour the melted chocolate onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and spread to be about 1/8 inch thick.  Allow chocolate to harden in the fridge, about 30 minutes.

Melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave the same way.  When completely melted, stir in peppermint extract, and then pour mixture over the hardened semi-sweet chocolate.  Spread to be about 1/8 inch thick, covering all of the existing layer.  Sprinkle peppermint candy over the white chocolate while still soft.  Allow bark to harden in the fridge, about 30 minutes.

Smash the bark into about 1 inch size bits.  Smash it up.  Little bits of peppermint candy will fly all over your kitchen.  Get a broom.

Store bark in the fridge until right before serving.  Imagine it on top of ice cream.  Oh my god.

Click to expand this picture.  This is what I'm doing over break, by which I mean I'm spending A LOT OF TIME pouring over the gazillion issues of Bon Appetit in this house.  One day I'll show you the veritable mountain of Ina Garten books that I didn't even make a dent in over breakfast this morning.  Oops.  Food lust is real.
